Local craftsmen and women continue to make items from palm leaves and esparto grass, objects in copper and tin, baskets, lace and typical footwear, as they have done for centuries. Get to know the origins of Albufeira city, that got its current name after the Arab conquest.
The trace elements from the different people that occupied the city, of the conquers and regains are spread around the council.
We highlight the Main Church, built at the end of the 18th century with an imposing bell tower. The Chapel of Nossa Senhora da Orada (our lady of Orada), a typically rural chapel, built in a once deserted valley and much frequented by fishermen. The Clock Tower located in what was once the county jail and presenting an interesting decorative structure in wrought iron to support the bell.
We also suggest a visit to Paderne Castle, built on a spur of rock around which flows the Quarteira creek. It is Arab in origin and was inhabited until the 14th century. Inside are to be found the ruins of the chapel of Nossa Senhora da Assunção (Our Lady of the Assumption).

A boat trip is an excellent option to discover the Algarve stunning coastline.
