Holidays in 2025: Take the opportunity to go on vacation on these dates in Portugal

Holidays are always a great opportunity to relax and take a vacation.

Whether it’s because some fall on a Friday or Monday, allowing for an extended weekend, or because even midweek holidays let you use fewer vacation days for a longer break, holidays are the perfect excuse to book a hotel and take a break from work.

In this article, we’ll show you the holidays in 2025 when you can take advantage of the opportunity to book a stay at one of the AP Hotels & Resorts and enjoy a relaxing vacation.

April

In April, there are three holidays to take note of. The first is Good Friday, on April 18, which creates a long weekend. The second is Easter Sunday, on April 20, which falls within the same weekend. The third is April 25 (Freedom Day), also a Friday, offering yet another long weekend—perfect for a 3-day getaway to the Algarve, Alentejo, or Viana do Castelo, for example.

If, however, you’re looking for a longer vacation in April and not just a 3-day break, you can still use the holidays to maximize your time off. For instance, if you want to take two weeks off, instead of using 10 working days, you’ll only need to use 8. Simply schedule your vacation from April 14 to April 27, and you’ll get 16 consecutive days of rest while using only 8 vacation days!

Holidays:

  • Good Friday (April 18) – Friday

  • Easter Sunday (April 20) – Sunday

  • Freedom Day (April 25) – Friday

May

In May, there is only one holiday, and it falls right at the beginning of the month—May 1st, which celebrates Labor Day. In 2025, it falls on a Thursday.

If you take one vacation day on Friday, May 2, you’ll have four consecutive days off (including the weekend), perfect for a relaxing getaway.

Alternatively, you can take just four vacation days and combine them with the previous long weekend (April 25, 26, and 27). This way, you’ll get 10 consecutive days off, from April 25 to May 4, while using only four vacation days!

Holiday:

  • Labor Day (May 1) – Thursday

June

June offers two holidays (or three if you’re from Lisbon or Porto)

June 10 (Portugal Day) falls on a Tuesday If you take Monday, June 9, as a vacation day, you’ll get four consecutive days off, including the weekend of June 7 and 8

If you’re from Lisbon, you have an extra holiday on June 13 (St. Anthony’s Day), which falls on a Friday This means that by taking just three vacation days (June 10, 11, and 12), you can enjoy a full week off—a total of nine consecutive days of rest while using only three vacation days

June also brings another holiday Corpus Christi on June 19 (Thursday) By taking Friday, June 20, as a vacation day, you’ll create a four-day weekend, perfect for a getaway at an AP Hotels & Resorts property

If you’re from Porto or Braga, you have an additional holiday on June 24 (St. John’s Day), which falls on a Tuesday By taking Friday, June 20, and Monday, June 23, as vacation days, you’ll use just two vacation days and enjoy six consecutive days off, from June 19 to 24

Holidays:

  • Portugal Day (June 10) – Tuesday

  • St. Anthony’s Day (June 13) – Friday (municipal holiday in Lisbon)

  • Corpus Christi (June 19) – Thursday

  • St. John’s Day (June 24) – Tuesday (municipal holiday in Porto, Braga, and Tavira)

August

Another long weekend to relax is what August has to offer. More specifically, this opportunity comes on August 15 (Friday).

In addition to the long weekend, this holiday allows you to save one vacation day if you want to enjoy a full week off, as you’ll only need to take four vacation days.

Holiday:

  • Assumption of Our Lady (August 15) – Friday

October and November

October and November together bring 2 holidays, but unfortunately, this year they fall on a Sunday and a Saturday, respectively.

In October, we have October 5 (Republic Day), which falls on a Sunday, and in November, we have November 1 (All Saints’ Day), which falls on a Saturday.

Holidays:

  • Republic Day (October 5) – Sunday

  • All Saints’ Day (November 1) – Saturday

December

December brings 3 holidays, and 2 long weekends that you can take advantage of.

December 1 and December 8 are both holidays, falling on a Monday, which provides two 3-day weekends, perfect for that getaway you’ve been planning all year and haven’t yet taken.

These two holidays, falling in consecutive weeks, also give you the opportunity to take just 8 vacation days and enjoy 16 days of uninterrupted rest—so two full weeks of vacation.

Finally, the most celebrated holiday worldwide, Christmas Day (December 25), falls on a Thursday in 2025. You can enjoy four consecutive days off if you take Friday, December 26, as a vacation day and combine it with the weekend.

Holidays:

  • Restoration of Independence Day (December 1) – Monday

  • Immaculate Conception Day (December 8) – Monday

  • Christmas Day (December 25) – Thursday

These are all the holidays you can take advantage of from April to the end of 2025.

As you can see, there are several long weekends for a quick getaway, as well as many holidays that allow you to take fewer vacation days and enjoy a longer break.

In either case, it’s a great excuse to book a stay at one of the AP Hotels & Resorts and enjoy an experience full of excitement, comfort, great food, and of course, a well-deserved rest.

When planning your vacations for 2025, keep these dates in mind and make the most of them to your advantage.
