VIANA DO CASTELO IS THE EUROPEAN CITY OF SPORT 2023
Viana do Castelo, which will host, in February 2023, the new hotel unit of the AP Hotels & Resorts group, the AP Dona Aninhas, has been chosen as European City of Sport 2023, being the 11th Portuguese city to receive the distinction.
A Viana do Castelo City Hall approved for this year the largest budget ever, amounting to 117.870 million euros, dedicating Sports and Leisure an important slice, taking into account the distinction, investing in enhancing the natural infrastructures that the municipality has, through the implementation of a Municipal Strategy for Nature Sportspositioning Viana do Castelo as a reference destination. The requalification of the existing infrastructures will also continue and the construction of the “Sports City” will begin, creating a green sports corridor between Praça Viana and the Manuela Machado Sports Complex.
The capital of Alto Minho, with 85 thousand inhabitants, brings together more than 5 thousand federated athletes, spread over 160 teams from a total of 71 clubs and associations, and also four nautical centres linked to surfing, canoeing, rowing and sailing.
The inauguration of the AP Dona Aninhasin the historic centre of the city, with the group’s characteristic quality AP Hotels & Resorts, will contribute to the recognition of Viana do Castelo as an important tourist destination, but also as a reference point for its inhabitants, who will now have a meeting place to be proud of.
