Santa Luzia
If you’re planning a vacation to Tavira, you must include a visit to Santa Luzia on your list of things to do in the Algarve.
Santa Luzia is a small parish in the municipality of Tavira, covering 430 hectares and inhabited by around 1455 people. It’s located about 2 kilometers from the town of Tavira.
It’s known for being an old fishing village, and that heritage is still very much alive in the spirit of the parish today. In this charming village, you can explore:
- Santa Luzia Main Church, a historic church dating back to the 16th century
- The Fishermen’s Quarter
- Santa Luzia Dock, where you can witness the hard work of the fishermen
- The “Old” Village area, where you can admire the beautiful Portuguese azulejos (tiles) with their various patterns, colors, and contrasts, which adorn many of the homes in Santa Luzia.
Santa Luzia offers a glimpse into the authentic coastal life of the region, making it a worthwhile addition to your Algarve travel itinerary.
